Well not really bases just raw scans of the pictures. I bought these in Japan and wanted them as icons. But I haven't the time to make any. So I decided I might as well upload and see who wants to make. Have a look see. Sorry it took me months to do, BUUUT bandwith was sooo poor during december I had to postpone it to January, and by then I forgot.
I have witheld Daemon. ;p Him being given to the best icon doer haha. And because I love him so. Anyway, the Japanese have different interpretation of Western characters in any case, so I didn't really see Daemon having that long a hair.
Please don't forget to credit if you use. *mwah*
Without further ado:

Enjoy!!

Date: 2010-02-09 11:50 am (UTC)Jim Butcher's Codex Alera for traditional fantasy and of course Harry Dresden for the urban fantasy/mystery.
And finally DESPITE its UGLY UGLY Cover and quite ugly title: Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan. (Her following titles are less beautiful but the first one was rather good).
if you're in shelfari we could compare shelves :p here's my shelfari account: http://www.shelfari.com/o8oyce.

You are right. I prefer the traditional series more, because, forgive me, I didn't like Mercy's books by Patricia Briggs. I think I read the first two books, and found them similar to Charlaine Harris, so I gave up on Briggs. But yeah, I know everyone likes her so I think I'll give the Hurog series and Sianim series a chance.
My recs would include:
1. Kresley Cole's series-- amazing world building about the Fey, Lykae, Valkyrie and vampires. Start off with the 'A Hunger like no other'. It's probably the best out of all of Cole's books.
2. Lynn Viehl's vampire books-- human surgeon who gets tricked by a vampire, and begins scientifically studying the vampires v. evil priests who think religion (and not science) has everything to do with it. will remind you of the da vinci code in some spots.
3. Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon-- ah, epic books, especially the first three. time travel, history, medicine, endless new issues dealt in the most imaginative manner.
4. Bitten series about Elena/Clayton by Kelley Armstrong
5. Sherrylin Kenyon's Acheron, based on the Greek pantheon. angsty, and brilliant world building
As for Marillier, Daughter of the Forest is the first book in the series, but is not the best book to start off with. The best would be 'Heir to Sevenwaters' which I think is the 4th book. Start with that, and read the books backwards: 4th-3rd-2nd-1st. you'll love her then. guaranteed.
Another author who writes like Marillier is Marion Zimmer Bradley.
And you've probably read JR Ward, Tairen Soul series. I must also mention Meljean Brook again.
OK, huge post. ^___^

Date: 2010-02-16 12:46 pm (UTC)As for Patricia Briggs, the first book in the Sianim Series is Masques.
For me, I hated Charlaine Harris, not much for vampires recently.
For your series suggestions, lesse...
1. Haven't tried Kresley Cole but I have been hearing good things about it. Will look into her today. I will look at A hunger like no other then.
2. I have tried Lynn Viehl's books, the darkyn series. I stopped after reading Book 2 and halfway into book 3. Sometimes when something is too close to your profession you nitpick too much. I'm an intern going on to a doctor, and I felt like I didn't want to read it anymore after book 3 I lost interest.
3. Haven't tried Diana Gabaldon's outlander series, probably because I got turned off after reading one of her other books, but will try it.
4. I have tried Kelly Armstrong's Bitten. I think I stopped halfway because I realized Elena wasn't going to be with her first guy and felt disappointed because he was sweet (the problem with lovetriangles is that someone always ends up left out...) haha will pick it up again to finish some time soon. I have no complaints with this book, I just felt sad about the other guy.
4. Oh, I was following the Dark Hunter's series previously. However I thought Devil May Cry and Fear the Darkness were inferior books to Night Pleasures and Night Embrace. I have picked up Acheron but haven't gotten to reading it yet because I thought it might disappoint me.
Haha will go for daughter in teh forest that way then. I have tons of marion's books and. yes, read JR ward but stopped after a few books. Tairen Soul picked it up and stopped after book 3 (I couldn't REMEMBER what happened previously when I picked up book 3 and I really wasn't that much in love with the characters to re-read it just to get moving at book 3 again.)
Haha so we do have some different tastes after all ;p
